Namaste New Delhi!

A crazy two weeks in Washington DC, two days traveling, and I'm finally in Delhi! I had a fabulous time in DC, with so many inspiring lectures and thought-provoking questions. A few memorable voices from my experience...

"Social class is the most important predictor of health" -Unnatural Causes, film
"Power is a public health issue" -Unnatural Causes
"The psychological experience of inequality has profound effects on body systems" -Marmot study
"In this city, you have to pay to live" -Homeless man with AIDS
"A decent society does not let people die because they've done a human thing" -How to Survive a Plague (film)
"We know how to solve it, there just isn't the political will" -David from the National Coalition for the Homeless
"The opposite of poverty is not wealth. The opposite of poverty is justice." -Candy from the National Coalition for the Homeless

This morning in India we were welcomed with garlands of marigolds and red bindi! We had an orientation on how to avoid getting sick and two tea breaks...I think I'm going to like it here!  Today we visited Raj Ghat, the site of Ghandi's cremation in 1948 and ate dinner at Dilli Haat, a market with foods and crafts from every region of India. Such a fun day and so excited to see what our Indian faculty have in store for us tomorrow!
